WORKS AND WORLDS
FROM JAHRA WASASALA + OOSHCON

THE PHYSICALITY OF THE BEYOND-PHYSICAL-BODY

THE TWISTING OF STORY

THE UNRAVELLING OF VISIONS AS MEMORY

“SOLESOLEVAKE: coming together for a shared purpose”

Jahra Wasasala and ooshcon, creating under the collaborative pseudonym CONJAH, embody an intersection of Fijian and Samoan heritage, infusing their artistic offerings with a rich tapestry of influences. As artists, world-builders, and entity-benders, CONJAH craft narratives that delve deep into the future-mythos of their shared ancestry, exploring themes of terror and transformation. Their creations are not mere art pieces; they are immersive experiences, driven by compelling characters and set in worlds that defy conventional boundaries. Rooted in a landscape shaped by diverse visions, CONJAH's creative practice transcends limitations, mapping out new territories of emotional depth and cultural resonance. If a creative practice is a map, then CONJAH are geographically based at the collision of multiple visions.

CONJAH’S evolving creative practice lives within Indigenous Future-Mythos;
the physicality of the beyond-physical-body, the twisting of story and the unravelling of visions as memory.

CONJAH's artistic repertoire transcends traditional boundaries, spanning an array of mediums including street-born dance, physical theatre, poetry, voice work, and digital art. Their approach, affectionately dubbed 'Oceanic Terror-fi', merges the depths of their individual talents and ancestral legacies, creating a dynamic synergy and formidable presence on stage. Jahra and ooshcon intertwine their solo body work and boundless imaginations to coalesce into a shared creative vision, inviting collaborators and friends to contribute their own unique perspectives. With a commitment to collaborative partnership, CONJAH fosters an environment where each artist retains creative agency, ensuring that the creative process is an inclusive and empowering journey for all involved.

CONJAH are award-winning artists, receiving the Arts Foundation Springboard Award in 2022, including mentor-ship from internationally acclaimed artist, Lisa Reihana MNZM. Jahra and ooshcon are also XIII WRLD Faculty members; an elite team of highly-skilled Street Dancers and a development training programme.

CONJAH are currently in development for their performance work ‘I Pull Our Body Out of a Dead Animal’, set to premiere in 2025
at Kia Mau Festival, Aotearoa (NZ).

Jahra Wasasala is Fijian, hailing from Macuata-I-wai and Sorokoba and was born and raised in West Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (NZ).
Ooshcon is Samoan, hailing from Lalomanu and Veilele and was born and raised in Te Awa Kairangi ki Uta, Aotearoa (NZ)

CONJAH represents this fiercely unique, 21st century Moana Oceania energy that has been cultivated on the edge of the Pacific ocean in Aotearoa.
They are channelling these forces, this epic ancestral magic, that can only be expressed in pure movement and body language.
